Before we start let's bring some meaning to what I am about to write.First this is my OPINION.Your input is not going to change it. It is what I like and what I feel, it's not something objective like bugs in videogames. A buggy videogame can be fun the same way a well programed game can be shit. However you have to respect the second for not having bugs. Ok I am getting out of topic so back on track.Second Sherlock Holmes is one of my childhood heroes. I don't know how many people my age can say this but it is true. I fondly remember seeing some old series in a small channel. Like black and white old. They trully have shaped me, as I absolutelly love detective mysteries nowadays,So I am very touchy on the Sherlock subject. Also I have read the books but the books don't mater.
I shall also only talk about the 2 big series going on right now , Sherlock and Elementary, as well as the movies withIronman Robert Downy Jr.I tried to find the Sherlock in the 22nd century series but it is kinda hard to find and I have on purpose avoided the Detective Opera Milky Holmes anime in fear of it being shit.I promised that I will see at least one episode at some point but it is not this day. So let's play it safe.
The movies were amazing with great humour and effects and the stories were pretty cool. The setting was a bit sketchy but fun nonetheless. I like to think that it's thanks to them that we curently live in a Sherlock utopia.Their effect can be seen the most on Dr.Watson. From a passive Dr. who was there mostly to keep Sherlock company he became much more agresive and present. And that is good. Keeping his simple mind from the books so that Sherlock is not overshadowed, but actually doing stuff, other than just shooting.Robert Downy also was great. He brought humour to a character that was mostly just serious. Again, a good thing. They also kept Sherlock's class, while taking out the drugs. Those two are important to me, as you will see later.I know Sherlock took drugs, but that won't stop me from being happy about that.Lastly, the music score is amazing.
Now let's talk about Elementary. Elementary started airing a couple of weeks ago and was basicly the reason to write this article.I need to just vent my frustration so here comes. Elementary's Sherlock Holmes is not Sherlock Holmes. He is Sherlock just by name. Don't get me wrong, I like Elementary very much. It's just not Sherlock. He lacks everything that makes Sherlock who he is: his class, his seriousness, the trouble he goes thought just because he is smart. He is fun and smart, yes, he just lacks everything else. Before you whine thought, I love Lucy Liu's Joan Watson. It sure brings something new to the table, and helps eliminate one other bad trait of Sherlock, his sexism. Miller is also very fun to watch and the stories are very good too. What I don't like very much is the whole Sherlock is in rehab thing.WE GET IT. HE DID DRUGS. STOP CALLING ATTENTION TO IT.
Now let's end this with my favourite of the three,Sherlock. There is really not much I could say about that.Just read what I wrote for the movies again and just replace words. Ok maybe not. Like the movies Benedict is fun and plays an amazing Sherlock and Freeman is an amazing Watson. Like the movies the effects are great and the score is awesome. Also this is the series that follows the books as close as possible ( I think, I have read the books but I can't remember every little thing), so the stories hit a spot that the other two miss. The villains are also very interesting, again something I can't say the others have.I love how they brought those stories to today's era of technology, best example being the first episode.Even my least favourite story, the one with the hound, was interesting.
However because I am not allowed to end articles on a positive note let me talk about one problem I have with all the above.STOP IT WITH IRENE ADLER! JUST STOP.Sherlock doesn't need a love interest. In the book she is a character for a small story.Yes she is the only woman he respects but it is just that, respect.Just stop.
